Out April 30th on Kanine Records - Weeknight Andy+Holly Like a gospel music for urban atheists, Weeknight has created a spiritual haven for arpeggiated synths, retro drum machines and roof-raising vocals to co-exist together. It's somewhat unclear what GOD it's lead monks, Holly and Andy are worshipping, but it's pretty clear it's not far from where The Raveonettes go to church. Their first EP 'Dark Dark Lights' (the band's less than a year old) contains three hard-hitting meditations geared toward this sort of dark transcendence. Equally appropriate in the dark or with the lights on, this is a mysterious and heavy band whose path will be interesting to chart. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets) Tall Sheep Laura Dean – vocals, guitar Jeremy Anderson – organ, piano Chris Palmer – bass, guitar Richard Stuverud – drums Tall Sheep is a noise pop band formed in 2011 by original members Laura Dean (vocals, guitar) and Jeremy Anderson (keys). Chris Palmer on bass and guitar joined soon after in 2012 followed by Richard Stuverud on drums in 2013, after Tall Sheep struggled to find the right drummer for almost a year. Tall Sheep’s first show in 2012 included only the founding duo, but little over a year later the group released a six song EP as a full band, with Brad Harbidge filling in on drums at the time. Laura, who does the majority of songwriting has roots in political punk, grindcore and riot grrrl bands as well as a history of formal training in classical voice, flute and piano. It is from this seemingly contradictory background that a combination of noise and structure come together in a noisy landscape of pop melodies. |
