Starting out as a bluesy alternative rock band, the band had to make several musical discoveries, with many different members before finding their current sound and ethics. They have played numerous gigs at the DNA Lounge, the Devil's Lounge, St. James Gate, and at other private events. They are currently recording their debut album, featuring songs like Drop Out, Follow the Herd, and Faith Inquisition. Our sound does not fit neatly into any current genre. We take the very best out of 80's era punk, melodic metal, folk music of other cultures, Prog Rock, and Alternative Rock and turn it into our own blend of music. It sounds like Rise Against (alt rock and elements of punk) met up with King Crimson and Iron Maiden (circa Seventh Son) and started one band. The quartet is rounded out by bassist Harry Anthony Ostrem and drummer Ryan Brown – both veterans of countless stage, film and studio work who have recently collaborated with members of Guns N’ Roses, Rush and David Bowie. "New LA-based rock band Black Belt KARATE has embraced the new music market by forsaking traditional album-release with an inventive new strategy of independent single release and corresponding music videos, beginning with their debut release "Servant" as a featured iTunes single on Aug 14, 2012 - and now their follow up "Kaleidoscope" on Oct 30, 2012. Both feature conceptual-driven visualizations from director Tyler Jackson, chosen in part for his highly-stylized visual approach with artists including Korn, Papa Roach, NIN, etc. The band's marriage of traditional and cutting edge modern business ethic is also reflected in their music...at once driving & tight melodic So-Cal desert rock and progressive vocal arrangements, but fueled with an old-school east coast frenetic punk energy, attitude, and grit." - Organic Audio, 2012 We recently issued our debut 5-song EP Volume 1 via Organic Audio / BFM Digital, and kicked off our West Coast tour on April 24th at The Satellite in Silver Lake, CA with My Sad Robot. Volume 1 was produced, recorded and mixed by our guitarist Jason Achilles Mezilis at Organic Audio Recorders. |
