No Way North
Brandon Miller, Emily Dykes, Matthew P-Touch Scoggins, Eyal Dehan, Steve Fisher, Celina Dean, and Jenna Dykes-Busby.
-From Los Angeles, California.
-Proof that a band is more than the sum of its parts, No Way North is brimming with talent and experience gleaned from each member's respective musical career. In 2010, the band brought their musical and technical talents together and entered the studio to work on their first album. It would be an incredibly rewarding process, despite the tragic circumstances the group would face. They were very fortune to have Brandon Miller's uncle, Rudy Guess, as a collaborator. Guess was Carole King's long-time guitarist, producer, and musical director, and an inspiration to the band with his consummate musicality, production expertise, and unfailingly positive outlook. Tragically, Guess lost his four-year battle with cancer in late 2010 while they were working on the record. With Guess's illness as a strong udnercurrent in the band's formative days, the album's opening song, "The One I've Won," was wirtten from the point of view of Guess's wife, and "Carve It Out" was inspired by his incredible spirit. Guess played guitar on both of those songs, as well as several others. It was the last work Guess appeared on before he passed away.

The record was finally released in June 2012. With the album released, the band welcomed actress Celina Dean on backing vocals, Steve Fisher on guitar, and Eyal Dahan on drums in late 2012.

No Way North is a group that is hard to pin down. Female fronted with a perfect balance of musical theatre-esque vocal power and perfectly crafted complimentary alt-rock instrumentals, the group is a confluence of the sublime and the bittersweet. They are polished and tight, reflecting a maturity as a band beyond their years.

"Sunhaze captures the relaxed vibe of California beach pop with a sultry vocal that keeps you swaying as the sun sets on the waterline. The perfect accompaniment to a midsummer dream and light beer." -Sera Sexton, Oaktown Indie Mayhem
