shoegaze ~ from post-rock to bluegrass

The Casket Girls
Peter Seeba, Phaedra & Elsa Greene, and Ryan Graveface.
-From Savannah, Georgia.
-So many pieces of Savannah, GA quartet The Casket Girls seemed to happen by accident. From their beginning- when electronic sound-shaper Ryan Graveface found sisters Phaedra and Elsa Greene under a tree in one of Savannah's many squares, playing Autoharp and singing bizarre songs- to the night they composed their sophomore album, True Love Kills the Fairy Tale, under circumstances that fall somewhere between seance and dream state, nearly everything about The Casket Girls seems to have been inspired by some kind of spooky happenstance. But then again, the Greene sisters don't believe in accidents.

The Greene sisters bring lilting, almost whimsical melodies about chemical hazes and love gone sour like a couple of messed up Shangri-Las, to which Graveface adds a bevy of grinding, multi-dimensional psych-rock keys that will be familiar to anyone with a Graveface LP in their collection.

The Stargazer Lilies
K Field, J Cep, EJ DeCoske, and Johnny Lancia.
-From Pennsylvania.
-The Stargazer Lilies slow motion bathing through space music is like sun glistening on the water in sound, ambient rock for daydreamers to bob their heads to. The Northeastern Pennsylvania-based trio of guitarist/bassist/drummer/producer, John Cep, singer/bassist Kim Field, and live drummers EJ DeCoske and Johnny Lancia, bring back the raw rock primal gaze, no bullshit sunshine haze.

Dott
Anna, Laura, Evan, and Tony.
-From Galway, Ireland.
-Dott are from Galway, Ireland and play shiney, harmony-driven garage pop. Paul McConnel, of State Magazine, said this of Galway:"Managing to sound at once like a classic garage band you somehow missed and as fresh as any current Irish guitar band, Dott have sound-tracked the summer for many music fans. With their style fusing distorted guitars and infectious lyrics, they have proven to be one of the bands to watch on the Irish music scene. They're the kind of band that listeners want to claim rights to having been first to fall for their quirky charm."

Dreamend
Peter Seeba, Mike Mularz, John Momberg, Lucas Oswald, Maria Reichstadt, Dave Sowa, and Del Toro.
-From Savannah, Georgia.
-Dreamend is a Savannah-based shoegazer group, whose music is filled with textured, compex guitar work and heavy drum beats. The music floats between numerous genres, from post-rock to bluegrass. Ryan Graveface, founder and owner of label Graveface Records, delves deep into the human psyche to write the haunting and poignant music of Dreamend. Their latest two albums chronicle the downward spiral of an everyday serial killer, and the music reflects the subject matter perfectly. For the second part of the story, Graveface recorded the album over three weeks, using broken instruments, pill bottles, and other appropriate objects, creating a raw, heavily emotional sound. Dreamend digs down into the soul of the darker side of life, and the result is astounding.
