Birdmonster
Peter Arcuni, David Klein, Justin Tenuto, and Zach Winter.
-From San Francisco, California.
- Birdmonster was born over terrifying diner food, when singer Peter Arcuni ordered a regrettable meal from bassist Justin Tenuto, who, in retrospect, should have apologized for the quality of the hamburger he was serving. The two agreed to play music later in the week, hoping the other wouldn't want to play Phish cover after Phish cover. They hit it off and Justin invited his old roommates David Klein and Zach Winter to join in an impromptu session. One thing led to another and before they realized it, the foursome had a practice space, then some shows, then an eponymous EP they recorded at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone studio, then were on tour in an $800 van that didn't like going up hills.

Birdmonster is kind of like a Bay Area version of Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, except that where Leo and his group have an undying devotion to first-wave new wave and ska groups like the Jam and the Special, Birdmonster spike their Fugazi-like indie rock tunes with nods to American Beauty-era Grateful Dead and early Bruce Springsteen.

They are revved-up and punky rockers who share space with country-inflected tunes that feature banjo, melodica, and cello, with singer/songwriter and guitarist Arcuni's lived-in vocals the primary point of connection.

Cash For Gold
-Jordan, George, Stella
Sounds Like: The Shangri-Las, Beach House, The Velvet Underground

-Formed from the ashes of beloved Bay Area rock bands, this unlikely trio found an instant rapport with one another and began writing music they had long been inspired by, such as bands like The Zombies and The Shangri-Las, with beautiful harmonies and melodies melding together to a dark, hypnotic vibe comparable to Beach House or The Raveonettes. It is apparent from their dynamic set of haunting ballads and dark rocking pop songs that their location deep within the paunch of the SF Tenderloin plays an important role in creating the perfect environment for these songs to be crafted. You can hear that the dark underbelly and grit from these streets have seeped into their music, lovingly carrying the listener through an array of restless, catchy melodies. Meet your new favorite band from San Francisco.

WAG
Lucas Nevrla - Led Vocals, guitar
Jordon Darula - Gnartar, Vocals
Mario Garcia - banging beats & Vocals
Hayden Strong - Deep Bass Groove
-From San Francisco, California.
-WAG is "three-fourths New Hampshire, one part California, 100% rock and roll." Their sound is upbeat and enthusiastic, while still retaining a youthful comfort in the laid-back lifestyle.
"WAG is a fairly unusual rock band these days in that they don’t have one genre as much as they tossed them into a blender: rock, country, blues, punk, all of them mixed together with a sludge of 90s rock, so the songs can go from slow to fast fairly quickly. This is a rock n’ roll band with a slightly stoner feeling, and a good one at that. Lucas Nevrla’s raspy, bluesy, vocals are a perfect fit for the band as his voice works with every which way the songs go, and the rhythm section is tight and well fused together. I’ve never liked San Francisco music for the most part save for some of the garage bands (more of an Easy Bay guy), but Wag is a band of scrappy, talented guys who know how to take the positives of grunge music and work them into slacker folk." - punknews.org
