Shonen Knife
Naoko Yamano, Ritsuko Taneda, and Emi Morimoto.
-From Osaka, Japan.
-Shonen Knife is a world-renowned all-female Japanese pop punk band, formed in Osaka in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock, the trio crafts stripped-down songs with simplistic lyrics sung both in Japanese and English. Over three decades of solid pop punk has brought this trio international fame and a cult following across the globe, and they constantly add new converts with their Ramones-meets-the-Beatles brand of sticky sweet punk.

Death Valley Girls
Patty, Larry, Rocky, and Bonnie.

-According to Patty, "It's weird because we started playing right away. I don't think we talked at all. First just me and Larry, then all of us for the first time, and it was fun... Hours went by in what seemed like minutes, when suddenly I realized, oh man, I can't remember her (Rocky) name, in fact I don't think I've her say one word since we found her." Larry adds "Ya, I think all Bonnie said was 'I found our bass player,' I don't think she gave a name." Bonnie chimes in "She bopped and could dance good." Patty finally asked her name. She looked up through her raven black bangs, one eye hidden, and answered cautiously with a mischievous grin. "Rocky." "We played all night, and by sunrise we knew.. we were the Death Valley Girls, and always would be," Patty says.

Punk rock at it's fuzzy best, Death Valley Girls mixes all the twangy, surf-like styles of California rock with punk rhythms and lo-fi riffage to create a female-fronted powerhouse rock experience.

Great Apes
Brian Moss, Rob Carter, Matthew Kadi, and Ryan Marshall.
-From San Francisco, California.
-Plain and simple, Great Apres are a punk band rom SF. Minimalism reigns. Play it fast, play it loud, and make it stick. While all the members have been or are in an array of complex projects, this group is founded on pop-sensible simplicity and the notion that music, much like a biography, is often at its finest when it's spit out intensely, with concision and honesty.
