Owen
Mike Kinsella
-from Chicago, IL

-on Polyvinyl Records

-Kinsella is one of the dominant and influential figures in the Chicago indie scene, having also led the band American Football, and played in the bands Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc and Owls (all with his brother Tim). In the past decade, Chicago's Mike Kinsella has played a variety of instruments in a handful of bands including The One Up Downstairs, American Football, Maritime, and Aloha besides the aforementioned ones. Owen is his solo project.
Owen's debut, Owen was a stark departure from previous Mike Kinsella projects.
Owen is known for its soft melodies, complex acoustics, combining lead acoustics with keyboard and other guitars, plaintive vocals and on occasions adding drums. It can be seen as a natural progression for Kinsella, from the progressive and experimental severity of Joan of Arc via the more melodic-progressive American Football.

The impetus for Owen was a direct result of the demise of American Football. Up to that point, having been associated with a number of bands, Mike sought a project where he could have complete creative control over all aspects including songwriting, recording, album artwork, and overall artistic direction.

Hanalei
Brian Moss et al.
-from SF
-Hanalei is an Indie rock/Folk Band from the Chicago area, and Bay Area in California. Brian Moss of the band The Ghost, and The Wunder Years heads the band along with Pete Croke and others from bands such as The Pines. The band began as a solo project of Brian Moss after The Ghost broke up, and after one release entitled "We Are All Natural Disasters", Hanalei became a four piece band, moving away from Postal Service-esque sound, and becoming a folky-earthy sounding band.

From Hanalei's conception (November 2002) through November of 2004 all songs were written and played solely by Brian Moss. Hanalei's debut, "We Are All Natural Disasters" came out on Thick Records in 2004. From December of 2004 through December 2006 Hanalei consisted of Brian Moss: guitars & vocals, Pete Tsoukas: guitars, Jason Kyrouac/Nick Kraska: drums, & Pete Croke: bass. Hanalei's second effort, a full-band project, "Parts and Accessories" came out in 2006 on Thick. In 2007, following Brian's move back to Oakland and then San Francisco, CA, things went back to solo form. Sometimes, there's a laptop involved. The computer wishes to remain nameless. From 2007 to 2010, Brian's bedroom, living room and internal laptop microphone were the primary outlet sources of Hanalei. Hanalei's most recent full length, entitled "One Big Night" was released in the spring of 2010 on Brick Gun Records. Since then, Hanalei has appeared on a handful of 7"s: A split with Fifteen and For the Win on Solidarity, a split with Aspiga on Jump Start, and a split with Sundowner on Mission Social Club. Where things will go from here is unknown.
