Swami John Reis & The Blind Shake
  --Swami Records
-
-Surf’s up! Swami John Reis (yes, that’s John Reis from Hot Snakes, Rocket From The Crypt, and Drive Like Jehu) is teaming up with Minneapolis band The Blind Shake for a modern set of surf instrumentals inspired by the ’60s classics.

For extra authenticity, Modern Surf Classics was recorded “underneath Crystal Pier in the Pacific Beach part of San Diego, CA with the expertise of Ben Moore and an outfitted VW Van as a mobile recording unit.”

A first taste of the album can be found in the video for “Brown Room” below.
The album comes out on January 27 and Swami John Reis & The Blind Shake kick off their US tour in San Francisco in February, at The Bottom Of The Hill!

Mrs. Magician
- Members: Jacob Turnbloom Tommy Garcia Jordan Clark Michael Farmer Cory Stier

- Mrs. Magician hails from the pilings of various San Diego piers. Like those pilings, their sound is encrusted with salty hooks drenched in waves of reverb and barnacled, fuzz. These pop songs are massive and betray the beach shack bummer of the summer posture that these hoodad's exude.

MUSK
Members: Rob Fletcher, Chris Owen, John Laux, Brendan Leonard
- from Oakland, CA

"It’s kind of brutal, in a way. It’s just the cliff that you come to, very little resolution, very little by way of expectation. Musk takes you through this supersonic soundscape that mimics the rising tide of the west coast and before you know it, without warning, you’re pushed off. There’s a growing fuzz that’s emanating from the Golden Coast. It’s this weird psychedelic kick that says more than a little about the strange culture that California’s created for itself. It’s dark and gritty and grungy but mostly heady and—at times—nostalgic. It’s psychedelic-garage-noise-glam rock, it’s satanic and it’s spiritual, it’s unrecognizable and surprisingly familiar, music that’s propelled by lyrics you can’t make-out but you somehow understand." - WordKrapht on MUSK's self-titled LP
