New York indie artists, Head North take music seriously. It is a way of life, not a weekend hobby for Brent Martone (vocals/guitar), Ben Lieber (drums), Alex Matos (bass), and Ryan Harris (guitar). After being a DIY band for so long, signing to Bad Timing Records just made sense. They have more resources and contacts resulting in the first national tour for Head North. Not sure what to expect, Head North is thrilled that they are playing each night to packed houses and sold out shows with the bands they admire. The music of Head North is raw and emotional. There are distinct ballads balanced with upbeat, high energy tunes with ever changing tempos that keep the listener engaged. Each song ebbs and flows like waves on the shore, drawing you in, because it is relatable to everyone. Lyrics from the song, “The Planet” describes how life can hinder the creative process. Words say, “Dangled dreams in front of me/Keep running on the wheel/Programmed like the rest of them/To never think or feel”, showing a bleak picture of acceptable norms. While the song seems to be a characterization of abandoning your dreams to do what is expected of you, it can also be the other way around. Often reaching for the stars is as overwhelming as settling down to a socially standard career, and twice as difficult. A Will Away Matt Carlson Collin Waldron John McSweeney Sean Dibble -from Naugatuck, CT 80's pop rock on Acid. Sounds Like: Taking Back Sunday, Northstar, Transit, Hot Rod Circuit Light Years Pat Kennedy, Tommy Englert, Andrew Foerst, Kent Sliney -from Cleveland, OH Pop-punk may be a young person's game most of the time, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for growth – or for grown-ups. Light Years are here to prove that. The band have graduated from the teenage angst that fuels most of their peers, instead turning their focus to the problems that face them in their mid-20s. I Won’t Hold This Against You, their 2013 debut LP released via Paper + Plastick Records, dwelled on the inescapable past while looking for ways to heal the scars incurred while coming of age. Now working with Animal Style Records, Light Years will release a new five-song EP titled Temporary. The EP, recorded with Will Yip, is a quick, 16-minute blast of blisteringly paced punk-rock showcasing the band sinking their teeth into evolving musicianship and offering up a meaty effort full of hooky choruses, full-bodied guitars and a pounding rhythm section. Temporary is bound to please fans of blink-182, Fenix TX and New Found Glory who are looking for a new undertaking to completely submerge themselves into, rather than a quick listen to forget about later. Casey Bolles Casey Bolles -from Buffalo, NY -Casey Bolles is a solo acoustic artist started in Buffalo, NY. With music geared towards pulling the heartstrings of any listener, Casey’s songwriting is a blend passionate anger and sadness, that is brutally honest and unapologetic. His newest EP, Freshman, has turned heads of listeners since its release on December 30th, 2014. |
