Hedersleben
Jason Willer - Drums,
Ariana Jade - Vocals and Violin,
Kephera Moon - Keyboards and Vocals,
Jai Young Kim - Bass
Nicky Garratt - Guitars

Hedersleben features the guitar work of Nicky Garratt, the British musician best known for his work in seminal punk group UK Subs. American drummer Jason Willer also played in UK Subs with Garratt, and Jai Young Kim, from San Francisco, played keyboards with Secret Chiefs 3. Keyboardist Kephera Moon is also from San Francisco. All of this may make you wonder what exactly is the German connection to this band. Good question; the answer lies within their music and their overall sonic approach.

The band does a bit of shape-shifting: when they record or perform with Turner, they’re sometimes billed As Nik Turner’s Hawkwind. When backing Swiss musician Joel Vandroogenbroeck, they’re the current-day lineup of psychedelic band Brainticket.

But when they play their own music – the largely instrumental examples of which are showcased on Die Neuen Welten (The New Worlds), Hedersleben have a personality all of their own. With Moon’s Ray Manzarek-like organ work out front, the dreamscapes of tunes like “Zu Den Neuen Welten” and “XO5B” take their time to unfold. The densely-layered music floats along; bass player Jai Young Kim's bass lines weave their way under the textures in a way that sometimes feels like Gary Wright‘s Moog bass circa The Dream Weaver. Garratt’s often heavily-treated guitar soars above the mix in a decidedly non-punky fashion, and Willer’s spellbinding drum patterns evoke warm memories of Nick Mason circa A Saucerful of Secrets.

"...Cash Pony… wtf. My buddy mentioned how gutsy it is to walk on stage with a sitar and bass guitar swarming with effects and a baritone sax. With an attitude of either “this is gonna suck” or “this is gonna rule” no middle of the road potential here. After the 3rd note my friend and I just looked at each other and gave that “wow, we’re happy we’re here” look. Cash Pony is Proggy and very complex. They don’t overwhelm though. Like a lot of math bands in the 90’s that were playing to blow your mind to the point that your girlfriend just wants to leave and listen to her cure album or dashboard confessional cd. The girls were right there with them, and the music nerds were too. They also have a great secret weapon in their Bass player. Some of the best playing, and use of effects I’ve heard since the 70’s. Not to mention a great artist..."

Gentlemen Surfer
Jon Bafus- Drums, Keys and Vocals, Drew Walker- Bass, Vocals, Barry McDaniel- Guitar, Vocals
-from Sacramento, CA

My name is Jon Bafus, and i have been learning music and making art since i was very young. I am primarily a percussionist, but also fancy myself a keyboard player as well as a general dabbler of instruments. I first started performing for people in junior high, in both “school band” and “rock band” contexts. Between then and now, my passion for drumming and music in general has only grown exponentially, and continues to do so. I have played in a number of different projects, (some lesser known and short-lived than others) including but not limited to Afternoon Brother, Sholi, Mucky the Ducky, Invasive Species, Appetite, Good News Bears, Sol+Jon, Genetic Makeup, and a number of “looser” improvised ventures.

My “solo” music, meaning music which i write and record alone, has gone by the name “gentleman Surfer” since the “release” of my first 8-track excursion in late 2006 entitled “Thanksgiving with the Gentleman Surfer.” Over the next year I made my first “digital” collection of songs and sound collages entitled “Tales From The Clipped.” Both of these were only available in very small hand-made batches.

The first official recording, “Bountiful Ore” was recorded in late 2010, and made available in November 2011 by ARECORD arts. Bountiful Ore is a collection of short instrumental soundtracks, written over 2010 in a studio apartment. Then recorded by Andy Morin at A2B2 Studio in Sacramento, and Mastered by Eric Ruud.

That being said, the Gentleman Surfer “band” is now fully functional, having played our first show on 11/11/11, and many since.
