Although born in Dayton, OH, on July 17, 1966, Barlow was raised primarily in Amherst, MA, where during high school he joined forces with fellow introverted outsider J Mascis in the hardcore band Deep Wound. After the group's breakup in 1983, Barlow and Mascis reunited in Dinosaur (later Dinosaur Jr.), one of the most acclaimed indie bands of the era. A founding member of the groups Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion, Barlow is credited with helping to pioneer the lo-fi style of rock music California Dustin Clark - bass, Adam Pfahler - drums, Jason White - guitar & vocals -from San Francisco, CA -Jason White's band California has released a new EP titled California. The two-song EP, released on April 17th, is now available for purchase (or streaming) on Bandcamp. The tracks are "Same Boat" and "Bad Directions." The EP is available for $2 and is delivered via a digital download in either MP3 or FLAC formats. The album was recorded by Chris Dugan who is also Green Day's recording engineer. As far as we know, California is a newer side-project band for Jason. Adam played in Jawbreaker and J Church. We were first made aware of their existence March of 2014. In May of 2014, the band posted on their Facebook page a few photos of them recording an album at Jingletown Recording in Oakland. I'm assuming the two tracks on this EP are from that recording session. Hopefully there are more tracks to come. We Arsons Mike Ballan- vocals, guitar, harmonica, Tim Vickers- bass, Rob Mills- drums, percussion, Greg Harty- vocals, keys -from San Francisco, CA -We Arsons is an alternative folk four piece from San Francisco featuring Mike Ballan on vocals and acoustic guitar, Tim Vickers on double bass, Rob Mills on drums, and Gregory Harty on vocals and keys. The band is comprised of completely acoustic instruments, allowing the group to play a wide range of venues, from concert halls to subway tunnels. The music itself is a range: warm and resonant, soft and quiet at times; chaotic, powerful and raw at others, building speed and energy not usually associated with acoustic acts. Intricately intertwining melodies and complex, surrealistic lyrics blend together and play with the listener’s ear. The band shares a deep love for the 90s and considers We Arsons to be a unique fusion of alternative rock and folk. |
