Modern Limbs

Xtian Beaulieu, Janina Wenzel
-from San Francisco, CA
-MODERN LIMBS is a San Francisco based art/dance/music performance unit, propelled by electronic pulses, acoustic drums and contemporary movements.

The brain child of multi-instrumentalist Xtian Beaulieu and German born dancer Janina Kim Wenzel, Mdrn Lmbs began as an attempt to merge tastes and styles into an open, experimental form of expression.
The musical side of Modern Limbs is a blending of live percussion on top of electronic structures and tape manipulations, directly influenced by Steve Reid/Keiren Hebden, Krautrock, avant-garde percussionist Ches Smith and Caribou. (Worthy side note: Xtian plays with Caribou's touring bassist/vocalist John Schmersal in Merge Records act Vertical Scratchers).

The debut Closer Than Sleep (produced/mixed by Caribou's Ryan Smith and John Schmersal) was recorded in SF, in one month, and strangely, without the use of a computer. The music was created electronically, fed directly into a now ancient Tascam 4 track, and post completion, dumped into the digital realm.
