Vanwave soundcloud.com/vanwave-sf folk pop ~ witch rock Doncat Duncan "DonCat" Nielsen -from San Francisco, CA -Duncan "DonCat" Nielsen writes nostalgic rock-and-roll that gleams like a beacon from the fog-saturated western coastline. His minimal, lilting approach is inspired by American hope and native mysticism, and has a weighty core likened to Metals-era Feist, George Harrison's All Thing's Must Pass, and Jim James' heartfelt crooning. As a youth, Nielsen's grandma gave him an odd pile of Euro-release Beach Boys tapes. Charmed by their sound, he was lead to the record store searching for other oddities. Coming from a family of music enthusiasts, including a dad with a penchant for electric blues, a brother with drum line credentials (and a composer himself), and a mother who did Linda Ronstadt's version of Blue Bayou at her high school talent show, he was poised for writing melodic music in a rock and soul format. He currently lives and makes music in the Corona Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. DonCat released his first LP 'Don Gato' February 2014. It was an independently crowd-funded effort wherein those who donated received a vinyl and artwork. One song was released every month of 2013 as a free download, and when the monetary goal was met at the end of the year all donors were shipped a copy of the vinyl. He is now at work on the follow up LP 'Easy Cowboy,' due out 2016. Lower Bright -from Oakland, CA -Rob of Tumbleweed Wanderers' side project. Vanwave Allison Kane (Keys), Chelsea Nobbs (Drums), Kimi Yamamoto (guitar), Monti Thaboua (vox) -from San Francisco, CA -Hailing from San Francisco, Vanwave’s sound is that of the modern sirens call, infused with electric guitar leads, and folk inspired harmonies. Their dreamy sound is a result of their native northern and southern California roots. Most recently they’ve added member Allison Kane on keys and now have Sea on percussion, creating a special dynamic between four leading women. |
