Saturday March 5 2016 8:30PM doors -- music at 9:00PM ••• ALL AGES $12 Kitten www.kittentheband.com/ indie rock machineheart mchnheart.com/bestthing alternative BABE www.babetheband.com/ groovy indie Kitten Chloe Chaidez -from Los Angeles, CA -Kitten are an L.A.-based group built upon 18-year-old frontwoman Chloe Chaidez and her amazing vocal pipes. Their debut album sounds like someone discovered master tapes from 1985 and, with a little remixing, released them in 2014. Chaidez is already an old hand at music, having been taking the stage since age 10. Executive producer Chad Anderson cowrote the material with Chaidez, formalizing her youthful instincts for music that wouldn’t feel out of place on the first few Madonna albums. “Like a Stranger,” “Sex Drive,” “I’ll Be Your Girl," and especially “Devotion” bounce aggressively with potential for the dancefloor and whatever constitutes radio in 2014. Previous EPs suggested a tougher guitar-based approach, but Chaidez sounds far more comfortable with these grooves. The album doesn’t falter, either. The album’s middle features—“G#” and “Why I Wait”—are two of its most-loved songs, while the end closes up with the passionate “Doubt,” the melodic “Kill the Light," and the low-key “Apples and Cigarettes,” where Chaidez gives another powerhouse vocal performance. machineheart from Los Angeles, CA/Tacoma, WA -Synth pop band Machineheart was formed in 2014 by a group of friends from Tacoma, Washington, and an Anglophile singer/model from Los Angeles. Guitarists Carman Kubanda and Trevor Kelly, friends from high school, were joined by Harrison Allen (drums) and Jake Randle (bass) in emo band He Is We. When original vocalist Rachel Taylor parted ways with the band, singer Stevie Scott filled in and eventually ended up becoming the new vocalist. At first, they called themselves New Bloom, later settling on Machineheart. Popular covers of Katy Perry and the 1975 helped them gain blog exposure (they even contributed a song to MTV's Scream television series), but it was not until shimmery single "Circles" was released that the band got more serious buzz. That song was featured on their debut EP, In Your Dreams (Columbia), which was released in 2015.
