Bowes, Lisa Bianco -from Toronto, Ontario -Hunter Valentine’s power rock music and fiercely intoxicating live performances have transformed them from veteran indie artists to breakout music and television personalities. Their 2012 endeavors included starring in a hit reality television show on Showtime, releasing their third album – Collide and Conquer, and completing their third North American tour in two years. They wrapped up the 2012 tour by doing a showcase in Tokyo, Japan and then performing at a star–studded benefit concert in New York City, Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays. Hunter Valentine’s 2013 exploits included touring with heavyweight punk rockers Sum 41 in the United States, embarking on a promotional tour in Australia, headlining the European leg of their Collide and Conquer Club Tour, touring with legendary singer and songwriter pop superstar Cyndi Lauper, and performing at Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays for the second year in a row. Full steam ahead, 2014 has included Hunter Valentine joining the infamous Vans Warped Tour, making their return to television on a new VH1 show with music icon Linda Perry, and working on their fourth full–length studio album. Hunter Valentine initially began exuding their “sexy and unrelenting power rock” music via an eponymous 2005 EP. They then built on that foundation with their 2007 full–length album The Impatient Romantic (True North Records). The gripping follow–up to these earlier releases was 2010’s Lessons from the Late Night (Tommy Boy). Produced by Ian Blurton (Weakerthans, Cursed, Skydiggers), the album thoroughly embodied Hunter Valentine’s unbridled love of rock ‘n’ roll, as well as the unrivaled raucous power and intensity that they bring to their live shows. The band’s most recent album was 2012’s Collide and Conquer. Produced by famed Canadian producer and Treble Charger front–man Greg Nori (Sum 41, Iggy Pop, Hedley), Altsounds proclaimed that the album “is an anthology of gritty, edgy, power rock with dirty guitar and husky vocals, and is pure music sex.” Kat Robichaud -from Raleigh, NC/San Francisco, CA -Kat’s voice is this delicious raspalicious combination of Janis Joplin with a bit of raw Alecia Moore (a.k.a. Pink) and a dose of Brandi Carlile. Adam says her name should be “Raspy McRasperson.” CeeLo, in a subdued Thriller-era Michael Jackson jacket, “You engulfed me, you set me on fire.”-Jennifer Arellano, Entertainment Weekly "Kat struts around the stage like a bat out of hell, kicks higher than Shaft and whips her hair back and forth like Willow Smith."- Ashley Woods, Huffington Post "Kat, who totally awesomely arrived at her Blind Audition wearing striped Quiet Riot pants delivered some of the most fearless, most rawkin' performances of Season 5."- Lyndsey Parker, Yahoo Music & Rolling Stone "Glam rock's rebel voice."- Brendan Bartholomew, SF Weekly- Vowws Matt and Rizz -from Sydney, Australia/Los Angeles, CA -After meeting at the University of Western Sydney and beginning to work in various projects, Matt and Rizz became well-known within the Australian experimental scene. It wasn’t until they up and moved to New York City, however, that they actually joined forces to form VOWWS. Together, the duo craft a booming industrial sound, heavy percussion and synths darkening a subtly pop structure. No doubt the band were influenced by legends like Gary Numan, but few who take inspiration from their idols ever build up the gall to go ask them to collaborate with them. But that’s exactly what VOWWS did last year. The duo had moved to LA after signing a deal with Cleopatra Records, getting to work on an LP with producer Kevin McMahon (SWANS, Titus Andronicus, The Walkmen). They then approached Numan with “Losing Myself in You”, a track they’d written specifically with his vocals in mind. Immediately impressed, the notoriously selective British electro pioneer agreed to appear on the song. “Losing Myself” is a barrage of percussive bombs, an assault that rattles the heart as it pounds on. Synths drone and swirl like entrancing spells of their own, while guitars crunch and stalk triumphantly. Numan’s unmistakable vocals ring out in the oddly light chorus — like a weighted balloon voice |
