It’s not exactly clear what specifically causes them, but one day, the page will completely brown over and be no more. This is called foxing. A group of St. Louis musicians took this idea and turned it into a band. “From the conception of the band, we realized: we’re not gonna be around forever,” says Foxing singer Conor Murphy. “There’s classic literature that over time grows really old. But hopefully, you can make something that meant something at some point and will mean something down the road, even if it is aged and dated. That’s always what keeps me going, the idea that we’re writing something now that we won’t be able to write in ten years.” Foxing’s forthright lyrical honesty paired with their stunning orchestral sound quickly started earning them devoted fans, some of whom have been so emotionally moved that they’ve openly wept at the band’s live shows O'Brother Tanner Merritt, Johnny Dang, Michael Martens, Anton Dang, Jordan McGhin -from Atlanta, GA There is an abiding circle: one where romance and tragedy exist together and hope coincides with desperation as a coil in nature as much as the unseen. In this understanding lies the dark themes and bruising medium of O’Brother. Carrying the weight of the luminance and spacey textures, the Atlanta, Ga five have grown into sounds of scorching heaviness and punctuated melodic interruptions that act as puzzles in-between the groaning feedback. Their sound grew from the nourishment of the road, a relentless schedule that brought them to share stages with the likes of Thrice, Circa Survive, Cage The Elephant, and Manchester Orchestra. "Touring is your biggest influence. The way you play, the way the band plays, the whole world shifts to the view from the road, even when home.” Jess Abbott -from California / New England -Jess Abbott is a phenomenal songwriter. More well known for her role playing in Now, Now, she has just recently finished recording her second studio album under the Tancred moniker. Borrowing equally from the pop sensibilities of, say, Tegan & Sara and the melancholy brilliance of, say, David Bazan comes this: her self-titled new album. |
