He possesses a heavy-lidded deadpan flow that calmly lets the punchlines deliver themselves.- DIBIA$E - -Hailing from LA's very own Watts, Dibiase a.k.a Diabolic's productions run the gambit from 8 bit video game classics to seductive soul to raw grungy bangers this guy has no limitations no sample is safe. Multi-time finalist of Red Bull’s prestigious Big Tune Producer Showcase, DIBIA$E has been honing his musical talents for over a decade within LA’s influential beat scene. His signature sound has been recognized and sought out by some of hip hop and electronic music’s most influential: Blu, Guilty Simpson, Elzhi [Slum Village], Abstract Rude, Battle Cat, DJ Premier, Flying Lotus, Geoff Barrow [Portishead]; to name a few. Safari Al Alexander Kollman -from Kenosha, WI (and Milwaukee; and Los Angeles, CA) -Journeyman Hip-hopper. The name "Safari Al" is also an obscure alter ego of Calvin's; of Calvin and Hobbs. Signor Benedick the Moor -Christian A. McLaurin -from Los Angeles, CA -Signor Benedick The Moor’s 11-plus minute “Maiden Voyage Suite” is a multi-tiered protest song, its topical stanzas and overall tone enhanced heavily by some venturesome instrumentation and production decisions. As a virtual A-side of a two-track digital EP, Benedick’s efforts are comparable at times to the more creatively aspirational selections of Outkast’s discography, his flow syllabically urgent overtop wiry guitar sounds and zippy synthesizer arpeggiation. The rhythmically schizophrenic “12:00AM” features Jonathan Snipes and Daveed Diggs of clipping., the track itself a prog-centric smattering of tonal and compositional liberty. While the generative mood of the song is dark overall, the changes enable its performers to play a little with their delivery, showcasing well their versatility. It also doesn’t hurt that they threw in a nice little Curtis Mayfield reference. The Genie The Genie -from San Francisco, CA -The Genie is a live-looping innovator from San Francisco who has developed a unique performance style and is among the most original, specialized, and groundbreaking looping pioneers in the world today. Creating a style called Scratch Guitar and a unique DJ method called G-mixing, he revolutionized the use of the Line6 DL-4 loop pedal. One of the most salient aspects of his performances is the extensive and deft use of his toes to manipulate the dials on his pedals while simultaneously playing guitar, laying down synth lines, and triggering beats on the digital interface attached to the body of his guitar. Bottled Water Maxx Bartko Danny Berliner -from San Francisco, CA -Bottled Water is the manic, panicked and dynamic duo of unorthodox hip-hop MCs raised in the suburban shadow of New York City. Now frequently spotted in the Bay Area, Dot Dot (played by Maxx Bartko) and Wolf Langis (played by Daniel Berliner) have made it their mission to seek out complex, unusual instrumentals and coat them with vivid surreal imagery, dark topical humor, and absurd insights. |
