Angel City Records Review featuring
Jackie Mendez
and Xavier Lynch
-from Los Angeles, CA
Jackie Mendez is a vocalist & musician based in Los Angeles, California.  She grew up listening to a wide range of music, but it wasn’t until her introduction to Ska and Punk, mainly the British 2Tone ska revival music of the late 1970’s where Jackie took the next step and started playing in bands. She developed a keen interest in 1960's era Jamaican Ska and Reggae influenced by singers from the likes of Alton Ellis and Ken Boothe. When Angel City Records approached Jackie, the focus was to showcase her as a solo artist while supplying her with backing by the label's reggae/ska house recording band "thee Hurricanes" which features an all-star line-up of some of California’s finest musicians.  Her 1st release "Introducing Jackie Mendez" EP has been making wave worldwide as she continues to perform in the west coast of California and Mexico. Jackie is set to go back into the studio in 2016 and in addition begin promoting her current and new releases on the upcoming Angel City Records Revue tour.

Xavier is a multi-talented artist who's skills range from singer, songwriter, musician and actor. Born and raised in Hollywood California, Xavier was exposed to the entertainment field from day one. His mother, 60's and 70's singer-songwriter, Gwen Owens recalls a two year old Xavier disassembling a toy piano and trying to understand how it operated and made beautiful sounds.  From this point on, he was in love with music and all things related to it. He recalls going to rehearsals with his mom and Lou Rawls taking him on stage and singing with him.  Throughout schooling, Xavier excelled in all aspects of music, learning to read music and play a variety of instruments. As an adult, Xavier utilized his talent within Gospel music singing behind some of the great Gospel singers like Reverend Walter Hawkins and has sung on countless recordings in this genre. Utilizing his deep passion for Gospel music, Xavier henceforth brings his talents to Angel City Records singing to the beat of Jamaican Ska and American Rhythm And Blues. These genres themselves are deep rooted in Gospel setting the stage for the birth of an amazing mix between America's Jackie Wilson and Jamaica's Jackie Opel.

Moon Cadillac
Shahin, Azor, Derryck & Damyon
-from Santa Cruz, CA

-While attending a Moon Cadillac performance one may be reminded of Jim Morrison's imaginative verse of "The Ghost Song" -- "A vast, radiant beach in a cool jeweled room".
Such is the setting carefully employed and presented the Santa Cruz/Watsonville quartet. There are echoes of golden age Rock'n'Roll that are gracefully met by modern blend of funk and dance pop revival that culminate into the true and fervent spirit of the group.

With crowd favorites like "This Fiction Life" and "Move it Up" it is no wonder the audience is littered with the tight group of twisters and jitter buggers lost in dance, compelled to return to the vast radiant beach.
Contagious rhythmic flourishes, foot tapping frenzy layered with dueling electric guitar solos, euphoric keyboard styling, and a swift tempo permeate the better part of the group's setlist.

They are no strangers to slow jams however. The weekend warriors of the audience are given rest when they are treated by one of their signature number "Give into My Love Tonight". Basked in pale blue light they become smooth operating specters showcasing musicianship well beyond their years.
