Vanishing Life
Autry Fulbright II, Jamie Miller, Walter Schriefels, Zach Blair
-from Brooklyn, Austin, Los Angeles

-Vanishing Life are a supergroup, awkward though that might usually be. The quartet of Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits), Zach Blair (Rise Against), Jamie Miller (Bad Religion, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead), and Autry Fulbright (Midnight Masses, ...AndVanishing Life are a supergroup, awkward though that might usually be. The quartet of Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits), Zach Blair (Rise Against), Jamie Miller (Bad Religion, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead), and Autry Fulbright (Midnight Masses, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead) met at a music festival, just to back that label up. But "People Running" and "Vanishing Life," the two tracks that made up their 2014 debut 7" back in 2014, took all four members somewhere new, combining the polish of Fulbright and and Blair's past projects with a bluesier, garage punk element without losing an ounce of the group's natural and inevitable urgency. The band are announcing the release of their debut full length, almost exactly two years on from the announcement of their formation. Surveillance will be out November 11 on Dine Alone. It sees the band once again working with Suedehead's Davey Warsop with Glassjaw and Head Automatica legend Daryl Palumbo taking a share of mastering duties.

Super Unison
Kevin, Justin, Meghan
-from Oakland, CA

-Named for a Drive Like Jehu song, Super Unison came out fully formed with a furious eight minutes of hip-shaking punk released last year. Featuring vocalist and bassist Meghan O'Neil Pennie (ex-Punch), drummer Justin Renniger (ex-Snowing) and guitarist Kevin DeFranco, Super Unison proves that melody can still leave a nasty bruise.

The Oakland band's debut album, Auto, makes good on the EP's promise, and refines some of the rough edges for a huge sound produced by Jack Shirley (Oathbreaker, Deafheaven, Loma Prieta). The catchy hulk-out that is "Broken" splits the difference between the beefy hooks of Polvo and Rival Schools and a knock-down, drag-out chorus that's sure to stoke the pit into a raucous swarm. Since her departure from Punch, this is the heaviest track yet to feature O'Neil Pennie, who alternates between a desperate shout and a shredded scream. "The song is about self-preservation," O'Neil Pennie tells NPR. "Sometimes you have to walk away from something that's not good for you, despite the pressures of obligation and guilt. Some people may not understand, but you know your own feelings better than anyone."

Fake Your Own Death
Terry Ashkinos - Vocals/Guitar, Scott Eberhardt - Drums, Adrian McCullough - Bass
-from San Francisco, CA

-"Fake Your Own Death played Friday night and I couldn't have been more impressed. The music is a mix of Joy Division, Love and Rockets and The National with brief moments of Interpol thrown in. They debuted songs from their forthcoming album to a sizable crowd Friday, which was really great to see...My favorite track by FYOD sounds like it would fit really well on "Alligator" by The National. "Few Plus One" is a simple track, but one that packs a serious punch. And with lyrics like "Burning airplane/ which way to crash/ no message, no map/ you take the keys man, I'll hide the stash...", you can see quickly the comparison to The National, at least lyrically, is pretty spot on. Another sweet track is the rocker "Mouth to Speak" which features the line "Your face, my fist...I haven't been this excited about a local group in quite some time. Get to know them." (Spinning Platters)

FYOD has been compared to bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, Sonic Youth and Jesus and Mary Chain by both local and national press.

FYOD has played with bands like The Warlocks, Blood Red Shoes, Film School, White Denim, Bob Mould and Gang of Four.
