For New Jersey-bred singer-songwriter Mariel Loveland, a new release -- her first in three years -- means not just a change in sound, but a change in identity. Candy Hearts is now Best Ex, and Loveland plans to release a brand-new studio EP called Ice Cream Anti Social this summer. We’ve also got the premiere of Best Ex’s first song -- a DIY pop charmer called “Girlfriend” that retains Candy Hearts’ sticky hooks but updates the guitar-and-drum clatter with oozing slabs of synth. "To me, Best Ex is taking everything that Candy Hearts is -- everything that I am -- and giving it a breakup makeover. Only I didn't break up with a lying, good-for-nothing human being, I broke up with my lying, good-for-nothing anxiety. To me, this record is that light at the end of the tunnel I've been trying to find for the last two and a half years. Making it felt like falling and figuring out my wings actually hadn't been clipped like I thought. I'm so happy to have this finally be out there and to have it stand, where it belongs, alongside all of our other songs, which I consider a deep part of who I am." Promise Of Redemption Shane Henderson -from Philadelphia, PA -Promise of Redemption is the solo project of Shane Henderson from Valencia. The music describes it all, take a listen. Mark Rose of (of Spitalfield) Mark Rose -from Chicago, IL -Chicago artist Mark Rose is taking a huge step forward with his upcoming label debut The Wild Type (9.25.15 via InVogue Records). "My stride on this album is a bit dark and haunting, but hopefully in an alluring way." Mark is best known as a solo artist, and as former front man of indie/emo rock band Spitalfield. He has spent the greater part of the past decade writing, recording, and performing--and is showing no signs of slowing down. Alternative Press Magazine writes, "Rose’s debut solo album, Wonderful Trouble (2011, self-released), has the style and emotion of a John Hughes movie soundtrack." This makes a lot of sense, as Mark grew up in the Chicagoland area many of these films took place, and was also very influenced by the movies growing up. While at Columbia College Chicago studying music composition, Mark signed his first recording contract and publishing deal at the age of 19. He hit the pause button on other things happening in his life and got into a tour van. Fast forward to the present-- he has 200,000 album sales + 1,000 tour dates under his belt. Not a bad start for the songwriter, who first picked up a guitar to learn the intro riff to "Enter Sandman." Rose recently inked a recording contract with InVogue Records (WMG), who will release his label debut The Wild Type on Sept 25th. The lead single "Well & Diet" has set the tone for the album, gathering nearly 10,000 YouTube views in the first week of release. The Total Bettys Maggie, Bri, Chris -from San Francisco, CA -The Total Bettys are a pop punk band from San Francisco. Maggie, Bri, Anthony and Chris started writing together in 2015, and they instantly became best buds.. Their debut EP Connect with the Couch features fun, upbeat pop punk energy with witty, self-deprecating lyrics. |
