Emotional Electronic/Avant Pop
The Spider Ferns
Sophia Prize- lyrics, music production, arrangement, vocals
-from Portland, OR
-Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Sophia often experienced vivid audio-lucid-dreams: swimming through crystalline oceans of fully-orchestrated sound. Enthralled by her unique sensory experiences in this world between waking and dreams, Sophia dove further into music-making by earning a Master of Music at San Francisco Conservatory, pursuing singing, music production and songwriting and began performing her original music at local clubs in 2011. A penchant for Mozart and Bellini blossomed into an ethereal yet darkly spirited electronic pop sound.
The Spider Ferns
Kelly Fleek-Bass/Vocals/Piano/Wave Drum
-from Seattle-Alger WA
-The Spider Ferns create dark, sophisticated electronic pop with heavy downtempo beats and striking, seductive vocals. Their latest release 'Safety' is an intoxicating opium dream —a powerful and entrancing call to ponder the human condition, pulling you into a universe where time and presence dissolve into transcendent beauty.
Their signature downtempo grooves and electro shimmer have mesmerized Seattle audiences for the last five years. Now, with a set comprised of mostly new material from a forthcoming LP, they have returned with a turbo-charged pop sensibility and dance grooves that will have the whole room shaking. The addition of dancers and VJ Blazinspace only enhance the dream-like quality of The Spider Ferns’s auditory attack, creating a world in which one can be lost completely, lifted only by the beat.
Laden with swirling guitars, driving beats and luminous vocals, The Spider Ferns recall the dark-pop of 4AD denizens Portishead and Massive Attack, interlaced with post-punk pulses reminiscent of Siouxie And The Banshees and the modern, synth-driven stylings of The XX and Phantogram.
With multiple Capitol Hill Block Party performances and a featured set at Bumbershoot on the KEXP stage under their belt, The Spider Ferns continue to expand their reach. They will embark on a west coast tour this fall with stops in Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego, before returning to Europe for an extensive tour in 2019.
Stephen Ryan Tucker, Sierra Totten
-from San Francisco, CA
-Pretty, Handsome is made up of Stephen Ryan Tucker and Sierra Totten. The pair met in 2014 while waiting tables and serving drinks at a local restaurant, becoming close friends. They began writing together in January 2015 and came out with their debut LP "Love, Or Something Like It" in February 2016.
Combining Tucker's masterful pop house production and Totten's emotive lyrics and powerful vocals. Their live show is not to be missed, full of energy and sure to get you dancing.
