"They make me wish I was a homo too!" —actual quote from a straight fan Girls With Guns Band Members La-ni Lithman~ Vocals Christy Nishiyama~ Bass Sophie Vogel~ Guitar Trey Cobb~ Drums -from San Francisco, CA -La-ni Lithman is one of the bay areas truly fascinating underground figures. The daughter of Philip Lithman-better known as Snakefinger, and known for his long time collaboration with the mysterious Residents-it took the former actress quite some time to quit worrying about her fathers shadow and come into her own musically. But when she did, holy shit. For the last seventeen years, Lithman's been fronting the punk outfit Girls with Guns, who sing, by her own admission, mostly about "cocks and sex and drugs." "I really wanted to go out there and rock as hard as the boys," she told me, "and look really cute doing it in a Betsey Johnson dress." Mission accomplished! The girls (there is actually one guy) play a mixture of Lithmans originals and covers of songs by the Ramones, Bikini Kill, and ...Connie Francis? Yep. Lithmans musical mantra..."keep it simple and stupid". -Steve Palopoli, San Jose.com Manos Lindas -from La Burbuja/San Francisco, CA -Manos Lindas is the product of what its name suggests. Blurring an array of genres and origins, each member contributes their individual hands for a collective sound that can't be pinpointed. San Francisco is a cultural melting pot and certain aspects of that culture are fading, natives would tell you. The eccentricity, the color, the nerve, the beauty, and the edge: this is what Manos Lindas sounds like. Manos Lindas is known for melting your face and winning your heart. Come and bear witness to something you've never seen before. |
