Fast forward 20 years later and the band has reformed with more energy and songwriting acumen then ever. Rightfully hailed as “the noisiest pop music on the planet” by Pitchfork, Austin, TX’s cult noise rock trio CHERUBS have been purveyors of sonic bedlam since their inception in 1991. After an unforeseen return to the scene from a two-decade hiatus in 2014, the CHERUBS have now joined forces with the equally revered Relapse Records for the release of their fifth long-player Immaculada High. Recorded and engineered by Erik Wofford (Explosions in the Sky, The Black Angels, My Morning Jacket) at Cacophony Studio in Austin, Immaculada High is 11 songs of signature CHERUBS clamor with an added twist of Texas-sized, psychedelic racket. Smooth, rumbling low-end rhythms interplay with feedback drenched, chuggin’ guitars, relentless tone and vocalist Kevin Whitley’s shrill, life-of-the-LSD-party vocals. Low Dose Itarya Rosenberg, Jon DeHart, Mike McGinnis, Dan Smith -from Philadelphia, PA -Heavy grunge punk from Philadelphia brought to you by members of Fight Amp and Legendary Divorce. Built from the ashes of a marriage gone sour, Philadelphia's LOW DOSE formed as an exercise in catharsis. Featuring the final lineup of cult noise-rock workhorses Fight Amp with the addition of vocalist Itarya Rosenberg of the late Legendary Divorce, LOW DOSE play heavy, grunge-tinged punk that is as visceral as it is infectious. Across their 35 minute, self-titled debut LP, the quartet bleed out ten emotionally fierce tracks, which deliver a loud/quiet/loud canvas for Rosenberg’s lyrics to lay bare the heartbreak and raw nerves of a broken relationship amidst rumbling bass, screeching guitar tones and dynamic drums that together signal the end of the world. LOW DOSE will surely hit all the right notes for those who enjoy the more melodic side of noise rock —especially fans of Metz, Uwound, Slint and early PJ Harvey. Shutups Mia & Hadley -from Oakland, CA -Formed in 2016 after a near death experience, Shutups play because nothing else matters. Shutups brand of punk can be described as pop songs decimated by feedback and endless riffage, pulling influences equally from ABBA as they do from Fugazi. In their first two years of playing together, Mia and Hadley released 3 EPs, the third of which was released through Astro Lizard Records. Shutups continued by recording and releasing their 4th EP “The Fourth EP By Shutups” in a single month, via Dumptruck Press in June of 2018. The band spent the last two years assembling their debut LP, Every Day I’m Less Zen (prod. By Cody Votolato of The Blood Brothers) to be released July 2019. |
