With the addition of lead guitarist Hussain Khan and vocalist Marta Alvarez in 2018, the outfit's sound has transitioned from one-way rhythm based to an all-encompassing sonic undertaking. Following the addition of Jon Annunziato on drums, Pure Hex was formed. Layers of guitar textures ornament the overarching rhythm section, adding depth under Alvarez's wistfully reverberating vocals. A marriage of influences ranging in breadth from the delicate to the extreme, Pure Hex has a raw but refined sound, cementing their intentions and aspirations as a new creative fixture in the independent music world. Mint -from San Francisco, CA -"Mint is a San Francisco band that has been ripping it up for a few years with their fusion of shoe-gaze, surf punk, and post rock. Their music exhibits their ability to create a calming, reverb-soaked environment that is simultaneously pulsing forward.". Grooblen -from San Francisco, CA -One of Four, Grooblen’s debut LP, is a sonic surreal musical circus spanning everything from the ridiculousness of the human body’s capabilities to heal, to geckos, to meandering along gardens and coastlines, dreams about murderous eyeballs, puppetry, and so much more. The album was written during frontperson Ellie Stokes’s diagnosis with a rare optic nerve condition during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which proved to be a fantastical, surreal time. Side A: “Diagnosis” is a soft welcome into this flippity-dippity surreal reality, with visions of lush green gardens, friendly lizards, dancing carnivorous plants, singing spiders, while Side B: “Solution” plunges the listener into a scarier, heavier carnival dreamscape full of alien brains, terrified dogs, and controlling puppets. One of Four was written and recorded in San Francisco with some of Ellie’s very best friends, her brother William Stokes (drums), and Jack Stancik (bass), and is a true testament to their inseparable friendship, bound by experimental, jazz-rock melodies and a passion for reptiles! |
