Chinese American Bear
-from Seattle, WA
-Seattle-based Chinese American Bear (华裔美国熊) is a quirky, lighthearted, mandarin pop-rock duo creating eclectic Chinese/English music. Their debut self-titled album came out on July 8th, 2022 via Modern Sky in China (China’s largest indie record label), and was self-released elsewhere. They've been described as the wholesome child of Melody's Echo Chamber, The Flaming Lips, Dusty Springfield, and The Care Bears. The duo prides themselves on being completely DIY. They write, produce, engineer and mix everything themselves. They often combine retro sounds from the 60's/70's, with lighthearted lyrics about food, flying through space, and other topics that don't take themselves too seriously. Their live show is a host of frenetic energy, quirk, and cuteness - almost like a punk show for children - and features live dancing dumplings, bears, and other costumed performers.

Chinese American Bear has been praised by Lauren Laverne of BBC, featured on Spotify’s Editorial Playlists like New in Indie, Chill Vibes, Fresh Finds Indie, Fresh Finds, Chinese Indie Picks, 組團飆歌, and 獨立最前線, along with H&M’s Official In-Store playlist, and over 6,000 third party playlists. Paste Magazine said “Their creative chemistry is what makes Chinese American Bear’s eight tracks—many of which the duo have been steadily releasing online in recent years—so vivid and imaginative. Their debut is bright-eyed and light-hearted in a way you can’t help but share.”

Chinese American Bear is on tour in November 2022, and are currently working on two albums set to release in 2023.

Columba Livia
-from Bay Area, CA
-Columba Livia is a Bay Area based band made up of singer and guitarist Christine McCann, bassist Peter Carroll and drummer Josh Studebaker. For centuries, the columba livia has been revered as a symbol of transformation and wonder. Today the Northern Californian alt rock band, Columba Livia, embodies this symbology within their dark shoegaze/grunge mystique.

Columba Livia (co-lum-ba liv-ia) has recently reinvented themselves within the current alternative rock circle in San Francisco. In 2016 the band coalesced into the trio of guitarist and vocalist Christine McCann, drummer Joshua Studebaker, and bassist Peter Carroll. The evolution of this Northern California group was an alchemy of a once jazz-funked, ska bound bossa nova band likened to Hiatus Kaiyote into a psychedelic mystic, stoner-gazed powerhouse with influences from bands like Crumb and True Widow.

In 2021, the band showcased their transformation of their sound and image with their powerfully entrancing and emotionally drenched sophomore album, Midnight Reveals. After the departure of Carroll, Erinn Wilkerson was summoned as their new stellar bass player. In the following season, the band signed with Don’t Flunk Me Records, a new label based out of Santa Rosa Junior College in Sonoma County, California.

Their next single “As We Go”, released May 13, 2022, doesn’t just compel you to listen more, it makes you want to join in and feel the energy of a group discarding boundaries and wondering if this chaotic world and it's rules are the only way we should live.
