Yuma Abe
-from Tokyo, JP
-Tokyo-based singer-songwriter Yuma Abe launched his solo career in 2021 with the album Fantasia, released on his own imprint Thaian Records and released internationally via Temporal Drift. “Omaemo,” a transpacific collaboration with Devendra Banhart on guitar, was the album’s first single, whose title roughly translates to “You Too” and its lyrics reflecting a moment of unexpected introspection amid Covid-induced quarantine. Its pleasantly warm lilt could be described as suitably Mac DeMarco-esque.

Since 2014 Yuma has been the principal singer and songwriter for the band never young beach, whose uniquely Japanese brand of West Coast-inspired breezy pop has found considerable success in Japan and throughout Asia, with five albums under their belt and sold-out tours with support from the likes of Devendra Banhart and Mild High Club. Abe has not been shy about his admiration for the legendary Haruomi Hosono, who in turn has become his mentor of sorts, and offers his services as a mixing engineer on Fantasia.

In 2023 Yuma returned with Surprisingly Alright—the result of many conversations he had with himself and his close friends. The mini-album deftly captures the warmth and springy air that permeated throughout the sessions. The A-side contains “Go Back,” “Arayotto,” and “Domo Konnichiwa,” whose effervescence and buoyancy are emphasized by the unique interplay of the chorus and the vocals, flowing out like a voice from within the belly of a carefree vagabond. The B-side contains “Dakishimete,” which unfolds into a mid-section with a distinctive ‘60s-’70s Wamono-style groove, and “Igaito Nanka Heiki”, which translates to “Surprisingly Alright”—essentially the title track—in which Yuma joyfully vows to ‘????????’ - “keep dancing even when I’m dead.”

Extra Classic
-from San Francisco, CA
-Extra Classic is a band based out of San Francisco, CA. Recording in their analog studio in San Francisco, lead songwriters, Alex and Adrianne deLanda, formed Extra Classic based on their mutual love of classic Jamaican dub and psychedelic rock and roll. After self-releasing their own 45rpm vinyl singles, the Roots/Psychedelic inspired debut Extra Classic full-length album, “Your Light Like White Lightning, Your Light Like A Laser Beam,” was released by Burger Records in 2012 on cassette and gatefold vinyl by Manimal Vinyl (Los Angeles, CA). The sophomore Extra Classic album was titled, “Showcase” and released on vinyl by Nopal Records and cassette by Burger Records. Names You Can Trust (New York) has released a 45 and is currently queued to release another 45 in the spring of 2024.

The Extra Classic live band consists of the following players. Adrianne deLanda (vocals and keyboards; formerly Adrianne Verhoeven) released an album under the name, “Dri,” titled, “Smoke Rings” in 2007. Adrianne was a member of The Anniversary from 1997-2003 (Vagrant Records). Alex deLanda (bass & guitar) is a songwriter/producer who has worked with The Papercuts, The Donkeys, and Casiotone for The Painfully Alone, among others. Alex maintains an analog tape recording studio, Nopal Recording, in San Francisco where all Extra Classic songs are produced. Michael Jirkovsky (drums) from Social Studies. Josh Miller (guitar) singer/songwriter of bay-area based band, The Wrong Words (Trouble In Mind) and Outer Embassy. Aaron Deer (keys) was a member of The Impossible Shapes and a current player/songwriter in Outer Embassy.

All songs recorded by Extra Classic are produced by Alex deLanda with vintage recording equipment and tape machines from the 60s & 70s. In this way, Extra Classic presents new songs with old sounds in a swirling mixture of analog tape splicing, space echo, heavy phase, and classic song-writing themes.

Extra Classic is currently working on recording their third album.
