The self-proclaimed “four young vatos from Modesto” have stayed busy playing shows with E. Arenas, Rudy De Anda, Brainstory, and Marinero writing songs, rehearsing, and putting the finishing touches on their first full-length album. Back with a brand new single & video for “Corazón” they crafted a dreamy pulsating huapango evoking feelings of a love that could be. The flipside “OVNI” is an out of this world psychedelic cumbia, both of which were recorded, mixed, and produced by Eduardo Arenas from Chicano Batman. Awahnichi and Talking Ghosts -from Merced, CA -AWAHNICHI AND TALKING GHOSTS are a five member Beach Goth/Erie Indie band from Merced California. Awahnichi is the moniker of RC Essig (previously of El Olio Wolof and Radioactive Cauliflower) who writes and sings poetic tales of sorrow and beauty. AWAHNICHI AND TALKING GHOSTS is his latest project. Along with Vanessa Hofmann - Keys/vocals/Percussion (Awahnichi 500 seeds), Brian Strong - Bass (El Olio Wolof), Joey Neves - Percussion (Eye of Aquila), Nicole Butticci Weston (introducing). Together they write thoughtful spooky bangers and pour them out from their hearts onto stages. The band played their first show in January of 2023, have recorded an EP (available on Bandcamp), and will be releasing a full length in 2024. RC has been a central figure in the California Indie scene. He played with Xiu Xiu in 2004 and in 2024 with Shannon Shaw and in the between time with Pinback, Islands, Y La Bamba, David Dondero, Mira, Decemberists, Mount Erie, Deerhoof, Cave Singers, Frank Black, Mount Erie, Deerhoof, Lord Huron and many amazing others. Past shows at The Bottom of the Hill supported Carla Bouzalich, Black Heart Procession, Willy Tea, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and Simon Joyner. EKOGKO -from Atwater, CA -EKOGKO from Atwater, CA writes and sings tragedy&comedy folk-punk songs. You may have seen EKOGKO busking for change at various liquor stores, spearheading any number of charitable fundraisers, or sharing a stage with Calvin Johnson. Albums include 2002's self-titled album, 2008's "Recyclable" and 2010's "Live at the Partisan''. Currently, EKOGKO is working on a new philanthropic rock band called "The GAFs"; a.k.a., "The Giveafucks", a.k.a., "The Giva Fux". |
