90's rock, indie rock, and shoegaze

Rosie Tucker
-from Los Angeles, CA
-Rosie Tucker is a born songwriter, an evocative vocalist, an accomplished rock instrumentalist, and a funny gender-queer art weirdo serving up truly fresh indie rock with an ear for the long queer lineage of politically conscious singer-poets like The Indigo Girls, Ani Difranco, Tracy Chapman, and Glenn Copeland.

The songs that make up Tucker’s fourth LP, Utopia Now! are career-defining, aiming to make a watermark high above most every other songwriter in their genre. The album comes out on March 22 via Sentimental Records.

Written solely by Tucker (with the exception of “Eternal Life”, a cover of an evocative recent Numero Group unearthing) and produced entirely by Tucker and longtime collaborator Wolfy, this most recent effort is both a homespun labor of love and a hi-fi, creatively ambitious swing for the fences. Recorded at their home studio in Altadena in between walking the dog and watching campy art films, Tucker’s latest album is a beautiful snapshot in time, a picture of healing from the isolation of both the global pandemic and the atomization of artists.

Utopia Now! rejects the idea that success means endless expansion, so perhaps it’s fitting that the artist was reckoning with their own professional setbacks simultaneous to its production. One album into their three-album deal, Tucker was unceremoniously dropped from Epitaph Records. A Friday afternoon email let them know they were newly independent. But like all good breakups, being dropped only brought Tucker closer to what they’ve always wanted: the confidence to move freely and creatively. What does an artist’s career look like in 2024? What can it look like? Rosie Tucker is finding out. And not killing themself doing it.

Torrey
-from Oakland, CA
-SF Bay Area textural pop group Torrey delve deep into a translucent dreamworld on their self-titled sophomore album. Bending classic shoegaze, rainy
day indie rock sounds, and 90s alt rock flair into more intricate forms, the band uses these guitar-forward songs to shape-shift between gentle drifting
and noisy breakthroughs. Some touchstones might include Lush, Drop Nineteens, Cocteau Twins and The Breeders, but Torrey have a deft grasp of their
craft and a forward-thinking studio approach that places them very much in the NOW. Singles like "No Matter How," "Bounce" and "Moving" are pure
2024 and place Torrey firmly alongside like-minded groups like Seablite, Mo Dotti, Winter and Alvvays who are enlivening a similar set of inspirations.

It's fitting that Torrey's most masterfully crafted album is also their first for Slumberland. As the album plays out, it perfectly arranges contradictory
expressions of angst and tenderness, exaltation and melancholy, restlessness and acceptance. These songs are obsession-worthy for any dream pop
enthusiast, with Torrey managing to call on some familiar spirits for guidance while sounding more like themselves than ever before.

Pillowprince
-from Oakland, CA
-Pillowprince is an Oakland based indie gaze band that shreds, suspends, and engulfs you. Songwriter and guitarist Olivia Lee sings about queer joy,
pain, love, and subversion, punctuating raw sincerity with vibrant brooding guitar riffs. Together with Asha Wells on bass and vocal harmonies and Sea
Snyder on drums, they create dense, propulsive shoegaze anthems.

Massive and melodious, Pillowprince ebbs and flows between a dramatic intimate grandeur and irreverent indie pop with upcoming songs engineered by
Ian Pellicci (Deerhoof, The Dodos) and mixed by Beau Sorenson (Death Cab For Cutie, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, Tune-yards).

The group’s chemistry is founded in friendship; Olivia and Sea sustained a long distance bromance for a decade before finally reuniting in the same city
and making music together.

Olivia's other loves include conditioning your leather boots, photographing bands, and planning niche high concept parties. Asha flaunts fluorescent pink
Polly-Pocket shoes, has an 18-year-old piano playing cat, and is bear safety certified. Sea enjoys coming up with queer pickleball team names and being
the band health gothfather.
