In this show, he debuts his third EP, Foliage, a deeply moving, personal, and original work which at the same time manages to be his most universal and resonant writing yet. He aims to capture the harmonic sophistication of modern jazz and temper it with a strong sense of simplicity, minimalism, and emotional honesty drawn from pop and EDM. Hear it for the first time live at this album release show, backed by the up-and-coming jazz-funk band Mint Glaze. William Johnston -from San Jose, CA -William Johnston is a genre-defying multi instrumentalist from San Jose, finally stepping into his own after a decade of accompanying some of the Bay Area’s top talent. His music is a truly original synthesis of many things, drawing from the wry wit of Steely Dan, the rhythmic elegance of traditional Brazilian and Cuban music, and the folky RNB of Al Green. William’s candid and delicate vocal stylings lay over a bed of his signature greasy rhythm guitar, creating a truly timeless experience. The Reid Devereaux Quintet -from Bay Area, CA -Reid Devereaux is an emerging bay area based jazz guitarist, producer, artist, and multi-instrumentalist. His style, akin to Kurt Rosenwinkle, John Scofield, and Pat Metheny, forms a unique modern bluesy post-bop sound. The Reid Devereaux Quintet features Keenan Lewis on trombone, Ethan Buck on alto saxophone, Nadav Beary on drums, and Nathan Sariowan on upright bass. This newly formed group presents an exciting, eclectic set of young musicians. In addition to Devereaux’s work as a jazz musician, he has experience in many other facets of music and art. He began pursuing work as a producer and engineer in 2019 and since then he has worked on various records for other artists, as well as putting out four of his own during that time under various aliases. Devereaux has ambitions in multimedia art as well, currently pursuing a BA in Music, Science, & Technology at Stanford University, Devereaux's ambitious project combining total art and unobfuscated artist expression with a hauntological electro-acoustic ensemble, "Stage," is set to debut in spring 2025 as his senior thesis. |
