The band originated in High School when Michael Carter, Jack Bradley, and Zane Acord bonded over a shared love for rock & roll. Over the years they honed their craft, self recording and writing songs influenced by 60’s pioneers such as the Kinks, Grand Funk Railroad, and artists of The Nuggets Compilation. As they progressed in skill and knowledge the band started envisioning a career inspired by the likes of Brian Jonestown Massacre, King Gizzard, and The Black Keys. The Thing started playing shows and creating a buzz around New York City in the Winter of 2022. During that time the group met drummer Lucas Ebeling who was freelancing in the New York jazz scene. With the four piece finally solidified, the band quickly started touring across the country. They recently completed a full North American tour with sold out shows in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Richmond, Charleston, SC, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, along with big slots at Governors Ball, Boston Calling, Hopscotch Festival, and Summerfest. Since 2022, The Thing has played over 200 shows. Also, a European tour is booked for the Fall of 2024. Their debut LP, ‘Here’s the Thing’, was recorded and produced by Jack in Zane’s childhood home in Sharon, CT as well as the band’s studio in Brooklyn. After establishing their sound and recording process, the band turned around the month after it was released to the public and recorded their second LP, ‘The Thing Is’ in May of 2023. The album was recorded in one month, with Lucas on the kit this time. They intended to make a more experimental album that was also recorded with all four members playing together in the same room. This strengthened their DIY ethos and opened up their sound. There is much more to come. LONG LIVE THE THING. The Macks -from Portland, OR -The Macks are brothers Josef and Ben Windheim, Sam Fulwiler, Jacob Michael Perris, and Aidan Harrison. In 2022, the band came out with their lockdown project “Rabbit.” Their raw and progressive take on rock and roll launched the band towards festivals and tours from Idaho to Mexico City. After Willamette Week dubbed The Macks “the masters of controlled mayhem” and Portland’s Best New Band of 2022, the band could have taken a breather. Instead The Macks finished the year with another full-length album release. Self-produced in their Portland home, “Dajiban” builds on the creative successes of “Rabbit.” The album took listeners deep into expansive, catchy, gnarly, and unmistakably “Macks” territory. “Dajiban” is “Elemental rock ‘n’ roll” that “flourishes in a liminal space between raw creation and perfection.” (Eugene Weekly) Now in 2024 The Macks are cutting deep. The band will release The Macks Are A Knife in a dogged pursuit of being the sharpest band from the PNW to date. Tobias Wisner for Oregon Music News reveals, “The album teeters on the edge of a rhythmic and melodic cliff, does a couple backflips at the precipice, and lands safely on two feet, ready for applause. It’s brimming with confidence without pretense, and if their first single they dropped yesterday, “Nice,” is any indication, I think those hungry for some Rock that pushes boundaries in just the right way will be satisfied.” The band’s 2017 “Camp Poppa” and 2019 “Yup” LPs documented their lively shows and garage rock energy. 2022’s “Rabbit” was born in pandemic isolation and made solely for themselves. The result was adventurous and eclectic. Now The Macks are embracing opportunities to play live again in bigger spaces. With shows at Crystal Ballroom in Portland and the MonkeyBee Festival III in Mexico City the band is focused on meeting the moment. The Macks began in 2015 with Sam (vocals), Ben (guitar), Josef (drums). Jacob (keys) joined the band in 2020 to create and record Rabbit. In 2021 Aidan (bass) began touring and recording with The Macks. Secret Secret -from San Francisco, CA -Secret Secret is a rock quartet born and raised in San Francisco, CA. Life-long friends Marika Stuurman and Sadie Alan started the band in 2018 alongside drummer Maria Donjacour and bass player Sasha Konings. In 2021 Thomas Fendert joined on bass. Secret Secret released their first EP called HUSH in 2019 and released their first full-length, self-titled album on July 24th, 2020. Watch out for their next EP called Queen of Cups due on May 16th, 2024. |
