The Nigerian born singer songwriter weaves insightful lyrics over groovy acoustic guitar rhythms that link his West-African roots to contemporary Western styles. The resulting music is an urban folk/world music soundscape. Lyrical dexterity is his underlying strength, and the infectious rhythms keep your feet moving. His music took him through a tour of the east-coast and mid-west of the United States and then out to the San Francisco Bay area in the late 2000s during which time he independently recorded and released two albums. The first, a 5 song EP titled “Soul Liberty – Demo Sessions” (2006) and then the follow up release an 8-song disc titled “Come on Home” (2008) which reached the number 2 spot on the charts of CMJ member radio stations. Ka-Chi spent a number of years as an active presence in the San Francisco music scene and featured in local press such as East Bay Express, appeared on live Bay Area radio shows, performed in Bay Area festivals (SF Free Folk Festival, Juneteenth Festival at The Fillmore), and held residencies at a number of Bay Area venues where he performed in various configurations from acoustic solo and duo gigs to full 4-piece band shows. In 2012 Ka-Chi relocated to Minneapolis and again became an active member on the local music scene, performing at venues such as Icehouse and First Avenue. In 2013 he put out a digital-only release of a 2-song EP titled “Expression Session” comprising songs recorded during a prior session at the Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in Alameda California. Ka-Chi once again relocated in 2016, this time to Southern California. After taking a number of years to work on other pursuits and acclimatize, musical inspiration returned in 2024, and Ka-Chi put out a new single title “New Life” in anticipation of a full-length album and new shows. He is now building a base in San Diego as he looks forward to new possibilities. While Ka-Chi holds his own as an independent artist, he has shared the stage with major label and national touring acts such as 2-time grammy nominated Colby O’Donis (Akon/Lady Gaga/Geffen Records), Travis Garland (NLT/Geffen Records/Interscope), and Javier Dunn (Singer/Songwriter and Sara Bareilles guitarist). The years between performing, touring, recording, and moving around the country living life, has seen Ka-Chi grow as a person and as a performing artist and you won’t want to miss what comes next. She used to stand on her bed with a broom in her hands pretending it a guitar. She could see herself performing in front of a huge crowd chanting her name.
