Plum is centered around Jon Kruppe’s melancholic, reflective songwriting, involving heavy use of drones and space, as well as dramatic emotional builds. Their songs can be thought of as fleshedout singer-songwriter music that draws from varied traditions—from ambient to emo, shoegaze to drone, Slowdive to Sparklehorse. In many ways, this inventive approach to songwriting, alongside the members’ deep knowledge of and affinity for different genres of music, creates a band that is hard to pin down to one subgenre of indie rock. Drummer Alex Liebman-Peláez and bassist Daniel Mamane round out the band.
