Mini Trees minitreesband.com Indie Pop, Dream Pop Affectionately instagram.com/affectionatelymusic garage indie pop Trinity Ace instagram.com/trinityacegardner alt-country folk orchestral pop post-punk Mini Trees -from Los Angeles, CA -Mini Trees' lush, introspective indie pop/rock is the creation of California musician Lexi Vega. The solo project's full-length debut, Always in Motion, came out in 2021. A sleeker, more pop-oriented sound marked the follow-up EP, 2024's still introspective Burn Out. A native of Southern California, Vega was raised primarily by her Japanese-American mother, a singer, after her Cuba-born father, a session and touring drummer, died when she was five. Themes surrounding identity, life's fragility, and a lack of resolution are prevalent in her songs. After studying percussion and guitar, she began her music career as a drummer, playing with others before endeavoring to write and record her own music. Using the alias Mini Trees, her first song, "Take It Back," appeared in July 2018. Combining elements of angsty indie rock and melancholy bedroom pop, the EP Steady Me followed in 2019, with another EP, Slip Away, arriving in 2020. Both were produced by Jon Joseph, a frequent bassist for the likes of BORNS and LANY. Run for Cover Records came calling and released Mini Trees' first album, Always in Motion, in September 2021. It was also recorded with Joseph. Some alternate versions of songs from the album appeared over the next two years, including reworkings with Yumi Zouma and Illuminati Hotties and an acoustic "Underwater." Eventually, new material surfaced in the form of March 2024's Burn Out EP. Although still warm and introspective, it reflected an effort by Vega and Joseph to achieve a more pop-oriented sound that was helped along by the addition of guests like Zac Rae (Deathcab for Cutie) and James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens, Ester Drang). ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi Affectionately -from Oakland, CA -Zachary Elsasser is a Multi-genre instrumentalist and drummer with years of experience playing professionally around the world.
