With intricate rhythms, thundering basslines, boiling guitar and keyboard parts, Septacy follows in the footsteps of The Dear Hunter, Coheed and Cambria, and The Reign of Kindo. The band formed in 2012 with founding members Bolich, Marasigan, Cameron Cheney, Michael Andrade, Zach Greathouse, and Justin Vanegas. Soon after, the band released their first EP, “At a Loss for Lullabies,” launching their performing career. Following the departures of Andrade, Cheney, and Greathouse in 2014, the band welcomed Nick Redmond as guitarist and vocalist. The band also invited former DFTG guitarist and singer Zach Rice to the fold. Following Nick and Zach’s arrivals, Septacy released their second EP, “Fun to Pretend,” a reimagining of their repertoire through the lens of the new lineup. This re-release foreshadowed the arrival of their first full-length album, “Bookends” (2017), garnering local acclaim, and spurring light piracy from Russian bit torrents. The discovery of this piracy led the band to decide they had “made it.” This elation was short-lived, however. After the departure of Marasigan, the band performed its final show at Bottom of the Hill with guest keyboardist Carolyn Beckerman. While on hiatus, world events unfolded, making a reunion show impossible. But now in 2025, the band has reunited, with veterans Bolich, Vanegas, and Redmond joined by the return of Beckerman, and new member Zak Fennie. Returning to the hard-hitting, expansive atmosphere they had constructed at their pre-2018 shows, they are reviving, remastering and re-releasing “Bookends,” reinventing the songs for the current moment and opening the door to new work. Rumors abound that a follow-up concept album is forthcoming, embracing the sounds of the past while boldly pushing the boundaries of the band’s sound into cinematic and narrative-driven lyricism.
