The duo are known for their melding of grunge with shoegaze, as well as their DIY and riot grrrl-inspired ethics. The band's most recent EP, Heaven, was released on May 24, 2024. Wayside -from Melbourne, AU -Wayside have made their long awaited return with their second full length release in 2023, working with Will Yip (Title Fight, Turnstile, Citizen) to produce, engineer & mix 'What Does Your Soul Look Like'. After the worldwide success of the album “Shine Onto Me” released in 2021, the band amassed 3.5 million streams on Spotify, gaining support and glowing reviews from Vogue, NPR Radio, Brooklyn Vegan, NME, Triple J and Alternative Press. Spotify added songs to their “Fresh Finds - Rock'' playlist and Apple Music added songs to their “New Rock” playlist. FLOOD Magazine quoted “Australia’s Wayside don’t want the emo revival to end. The duo are wistful for Title Fight’s Hyperview, Superheaven’s Jar, and Citizen's Youth, determined to blur the lines between emo, shoegaze, grunge, and nu-metal. What’s definitely in these songs is movement—a feeling of free-floating, a dizzying sensation constructed vaguely with elastic riffs and airy vocals”. After the success of their first record, Wayside were given the opportunity to work with esteemed producer Will Yip. A decade's long dream for the band, Yip was drawn into working with Wayside through the songwriting and unique sense of melody within their previous works, with a dedication towards exploring different sonic spaces and opening up to the free flow of collaborative creativity. |
