Raww's Graveside Quartet -from San Francisco, CA -Lester T. Raww and The Hollins & Hollins Mortuary Entertainment team - Possum Carvidi, Col. Timothy Leather, Gentleman Jimmy Hadley, and Slade Anderson. - extend their Americana sound into Tin Pan Alley/trad jazz territory to celebrate their fascination with things morbid. This doesn't mean that there will be no more Pine Box Boys. Quite the contrary. Now it means they can open up for themselves. While the themes are similar, The Graveside Quartet picks up where "Tales From The Emancipated Head" left off, leaving the Pine Box Boys free to continue hootin' and hollerin' their way through Lester's murder ballads. The Graveside Quartet steers clear of the country vibe, dubiously replacing the banjo with an accordion. Actually, let's look at the evolution of the two frontmen for both bands, Possum and Lester. Lester has set his Martin aside and picked up the ukulele. Possum - and I'm sure this makes his mother proud - performs on the accordion and musical saw. And then there’s the horns: Lester on trombone, Possum on tenor sax, and Gentleman Jimmy on trumpet. This brings in a sort of New Orleans vibe. The change in sound may make the band more palatable for those who utterly reject the Pine Box Boys' more countrified setting, but the GSQ will certainly entertain the morbid sensibilities of the PBB fan base. The Slow Poisoner -from San Francisco, CA -The Slow Poisoner (alias Andrew Goldfarb) is a one man surrealistic rock and roll band who hails from San Francisco and has been playing to audiences all over since 1996. His songs sprout forth like psychedelic flowers rooted in the soil of traditional American music but grown twisted beneath morbid rays of black sunshine. Meredith Edgar Trio -from San Francisco, CA -Meredith Edgar is a San Francisco-based singer-songwriter. With smoky-sweet ethereal vocals, she's been said to have "the voice of a chain-smoking angel." Cindy Emch of Secret Emchy Society said that Meredith "sounds like she stepped out of the starring singer role in a David Lynch movie." She has shared bills with artists such as Mark Eitzel, The Crooked Jades, The Pine Box Boys, Paula Frazer & Tarnation, Andrés Miguel Cervantes, and many more. Her songs are a haunting, melodic mix of passion and melancholy, seamlessly blending the styles of folk, Americana, and jazz into a unique form. |
