The group - Ben Berdous (vocals, guitar), Marie Moe (vocals, bass), Tor Erik Bye (guitar), and Jard Hole (drums) - perfects this sound on their second full-length offering and MNRK Heavy debut LP, Tundra Rock. ‘Tundra Rock’ is ‘Desert Rock’ in our terms,” says Berdous. “A desert doesn’t have to be warm, the tundra is our desert. The grandiosity of nature is evident in the songs.” Slomosa began nearly ten years ago as a low-pressure project among friends. Influenced by bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden, the group’s 2020 self-titled debut racked up over 10 million streams on tracks such as “Kevin,” “In My Mind’s Desert,” “There Is Nothing New Under The Sun,” and “Horses.” In 2024, they returned to the studio with producer Erik Marinius to record Tundra Rock, expanding on the foundation of their first album. Metal Hammer (UK) praised “Slomosa’s second outing is a blistering expansion to the Norwegians’ desert rock sound […] Tundra Rock is the real deal!” Their second album continued a thunderous stride by winning the Rock category at Spellemannprisen, Norway’s most prestigious annual music award, often referred to as the "Norwegian Grammys”. Meanwhile, they played to packed crowds across Europe, scorching the stages of Alcatraz Open Air, Sweden Rock Festival and Hellfest, alongside receiving invitations to tour with the likes of Alkaline Trio, Kadavar, Helmet, and even supporting Mastodon on select dates in 2025. Key singles “Cabin Fever,” “Rice,” and “Battling Guns” reflect the band’s growth. “Battling Guns,” rooted in Berdous’s anti-war stance, is “in the simplest sense, an anti-war, anti-fascist track.” Songs like “MJ,” “Monomann,” and the closing track “Dune” further explore heavier grooves, grunge influences, and hypnotic rhythm. “If you listen to this, I just hope you feel something,” says Berdous. “Tundra Rock is here to stay.” In the end, Slomosa welcomes everyone into their world on Tundra Rock. 125% The Mainliners -from Southern CA -Raised in Southern California by parents who brought them to DIY punk shows and spun classic punk records in the house, Hollywood, CA-based punk up-and-comers, The Mainliners, are the real thing. And they embrace their roots, taking inspiration from such legendary SoCal bands as TSOL, Descendants, and DI, and drawing comparisons to others in the vanguard, from The Circle Jerks to The Adolescents. Formed in the crucible of pent-up creative energy that was a quarantine-era art/punk house in Los Angeles, the band hit the ground running - writing songs, playing shows, and switching instruments for a year and a half before the official four man lineup of Cash Mathieu on vocals, Colin Martin on guitar, Adrian Morris on bass, and Jackson Fox on drums was cemented. Since then, the band has been hard at work developing their musical and visual language across several singles, an EP, an album, and a live album, all released since 2023. They’ve been tearing up stages across the country and getting their name out there playing with bands such as Enjoy, Gvllow, Civic, and Bad Nerves. They also played to a huge crowd as the only punk band on the 2024 edition of Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in their hometown of Los Angeles, proving that The Mainliners’ sound, look, and message connects, not just with punks, but with fans of good music. |
