Ida made their debut with 1994’s luminous Tales of Brave Ida, released on Tsunami frontwoman Jenny Toomey’s hugely influential Simple Machines label. The project soon grew into a full-fledged band with the addition of Littleton’s brother Michael Littleton on drums and bassist Karla Schickele, followed by 1996’s I Know About You and 1997’s Ten Small Paces, both of which earned critical acclaim for their subtle arrangements, rich harmonies, and stunning songcraft. Looking to expand their sound and audience, Ida signed to Capitol Records in 1997 and set to work on what would become Will You Find Me. The protracted process saw the band recording in 14 studios across the country, joined by an array of additional musicians including Tara Jane O’Neil, Warren Defever, and the one and only Bernie Worrell. The resulting collection captures a band caught between Brooklyn and Woodstock, temping and adulting, burying a parent and birthing a child. A tireless compendium and ode to sleep, sex, all-night talking, and other bed-ridden activities, Will You Find Me was ultimately released in 2000 by New York-based independent label Tiger Style Records to worldwide praise. “Ida is a four-piece band intent on sounding smaller and more private, the better to contemplate questions like ''Am I still the one you wanted me to be?'… Even when Ida allows itself to use a rock beat or guitar feedback, its songs seem hushed. They're like the whispers of uncertain lovers in a perpetual dance of vulnerability and assurance, parting and reconciliation.” - Jon Pareles / New York Times Tara Jane O’Neil -from Los Angeles, CA -Tara Jane O’Neil is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and visual artist. She composes and performs under her own name and in collaboration with other musicians, artists, dancers, and filmmakers. As a solo artist he has released ten full-length albums. O’Neil was a founding member of Rodan, the Sonora Pine and several other bands. She has collaborated on recordings and stages with Papa M, Steve Gunn, Hand Habits, Lower Dens, Michael Hurley, Little Wings, Marisa Anderson, Catherine Irwin, Mirah, Mount Eerie, and many others. Since 1992 has performed at clubs, galleries, and DIY spaces around the world and venues such as the Centre de Pompdou, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hammer and the Broad. She starred in the cult classic film Half-Cocked and scored feature films including His Lost Name, Great Speeches From a Dying World and others. Her visual art work has been shown in cities including London, Tokyo, LA, New York and Portland and has been published in three monographs. Storey Littleton -from Woodstock, NY -Storey Littleton is a songwriter from Woodstock NY. She grew up on the road with a family band (Ida), singing and playing the recorder in libraries and dive bars across America. Here are some of her favorite things: thunderstorms, hotel breakfast and being in a car while someone she's in love with is driving. Here are some things that she can't stand: certainty, staying in the same place for too long and telling people where she lives that she is moving. Storey continues to tour with her family, playing guitar and keyboards in Ida. She fronts the band M0N0GAMY alongside Livia Reiner and Matthew Danger Lippman, and provides supporting instrumentation for The Hedons, Calder The Destroyer, Luella and Amy Helm. She has toured nationally as a solo artist, including past performances at SXSW, Avrom Farm Party, Levon Helm Studios and Live at Glass Hill. Her favorite venue to play is Tubby's in Kingston NY. |
