Belly Up to the Bar Here's where you can eat for cheap Caitlin Boyle Wednesday, December 30, 1998 BOTTOM OF THE HILL Nearly every Sunday for the last several years, Bottom of The Hill has opened its door to hungry music lovers. The cover charge is $5; Pabst Blue Ribbon is $2.50 a pint, Budweiser is $3. Three or four live bands play -- usually an eclectic mix of local talent -- and there is plenty of room for dancing. The all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet rivals any family picnic and is vegetarian-friendly: two pasta salads, potato salad, green salad, cole slaw, barbecued chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, chili and Jell-O. Eat all you like, dance it off, and get out for $10. I ate, had a couple of beers, played pool, danced, relaxed by the fireplace and even scored a phone number. Bottom of the Hill, 1233 17th St. (at Missouri Street), San Francisco; (415) 626-4455. unday hours are approximately 3-9 p.m. Food is served at 4 p.m., bands start at 5:30 p.m. Caitlin ``Charlie'' Boyle is a recent graduate of the Hotel and Restaurant Program of City College of San Francisco. ©1999 San Francisco Chronicle
