jennylee & TT
-from Los Angeles, CA
-Best known for her work as Warpaint's bassist and lead vocalist, Jenny Lee Lindberg embarked on a solo career as jennylee. Joined by collaborators including Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa and producer Norm Block (who also worked with Plexi and Mark Lanegan) at Silverlake, California's Happy Ending Studio, Lindberg recorded ten songs that mixed aspects of goth and new wave with Warpaint's spacious dream pop in early 2015. The results were right on!, which Rough Trade released that December. ~ Heather Phares

-LoveLaws reflects Wayman's personal growth and growth as a musician over the past 14 years, as well as enabling her to explore ideas that are otherwise difficult in a band setting. LoveLaws is written by a mother of a 12 year old son "coming from a position of what it's like to have and to get unconditional love." The album is also about the ups and downs of romance, viewed through Wayman's experience as a traveling musician, where the routine can be maddening in its loneliness and where relationships are difficult. The songs were her way of processing this loneliness. The result is an album that, in Wayman's words, is "down tempo, pretty sexy, and a bit emotional. I'm a romantic person in a world where a relationship is difficult. But I also needed to be on my own and not force having a relationship."

She's a one-woman band on LoveLaws: she plays bass, guitar, and synth on the album, and she programmed the drum beats on most of the tracks. She also had a little help from Warpaint bandmates Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass) and Stella Mozgawa (drums). Wayman co-produced the album with her brother Ivan.

Kills Birds
-from Los Angeles, CA
-Kills Birds is a Los Angeles-based rock band. What started as a secret project between vocalist Nina Ljeti and guitarist Jacob Loeb, Kills Birds evolved into a band when Fielder Thomas (bass) and Bosh Rothman (drums) joined in 2017. Shortly after, the band began performing around Los Angeles. With Nina’s urgent and raw stage presence and Jacob’s feral guitar melodies, anchored by Bosh and Fielder’s monstrous drums and bass, the band quickly generated buzz for their thrilling and unpredictable live performances. In 2018, they recorded their debut album with Justin Raisen in only eight hours, to capture the magnetism that their live shows are known for. In late 2018, they released their first single, “Worthy Girl,” which quickly garnered the attention of the legendary Kim Gordon, who gave it her stamp of approval. The response the track generated is rare for a first single, but Kills Birds has nabbed just that. Their unforgettable blend of emotionally charged performance and deliberate musicianship, is what makes their debut album mandatory listening.

Sour Widows
Susanna Thomson
Maia Sinaiko
Max Edelman
-from Bay Area, CA

-Sour Widows are a bedroom rock band from the Bay Area comprised of longtime friends Maia Sinaiko, Susanna Thomson, and Max Edelman. Songs marked by driving harmonies address themes of relationship and reflection; layers of warmth, depth, and grit surface and fade in their two-guitar dynamic. Through progressions that shift from subtle to biting, Sour Widows expose tender moments with an edge.
